    We offer competitive salaries for both teaching and non-teaching staff based on the specific type and level of role. Pay ranges are reviewed annually. Starting salaries are determined by the pay range for the specific role, candidate experience as well as external market conditions.

    AHS offers a comprehensive and personalised training and development programme for all staff, teaching and non-teaaching. As part of the annual appraisal process personal development plans are agree alongside whole school training and development which is delivered through INSET days, personal and regular line management meetings, staff meetings and weekly briefing sessions. AHS also have membership of the National College Training platform which provides a vast aray of training opportunities.

    All contracted members of staff are automatically enrolled into a career-average pension scheme with either the Teachers’ Pension Scheme or the Local Government Pension Scheme (whichever is appropriate). You don’t pay tax or national insurance on your contributions and AHS adds a generous employer contribution, which varies depending on your salary. All staff are entitled to opt-out of the pension scheme should they wish to do so.

    AHS recognises and embraces the importance of a good work-life balance and provides generous holiday entitlements. This entitlement is in addition to any Bank or Public holidays. Holiday for part-time staff is pro-ratered. Teaching staff receive the standard school holiday allowance, the School currently teaches 183.5 days a year.

    AHS offers Educational Support which provides free and confidential advice available 24hrs, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. You will also have access to structured counselling of up to six sessions available either face-to-face or over the phone with a counsellor

    Initial Teacher Training

    Aylesbury High School partners with Astra School Centred Initial Teacher Training to provide training opportunities for new entrants to the teaching profession.

    Over the last ten years, over 550 graduates have gone on to gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) through Astra, which works with approximately sixty local primary, secondary and special schools.

    Astra training blends theory and practice, with both carefully structured school-based training and a focus on helping trainees develop an up to date knowledge and understanding of pedagogy in their specialist subject or phase. Throughout, Astra trainees are supported both by an in school mentor and a team of highly qualified and experienced tutors.

    While a large number of teachers continue to enter the profession soon after university, increasingly teaching is a popular choice with career switchers.

    Astra is able to support you as you apply and make your first steps into this challenging, varied and rewarding career, with regular open evenings and school taster placements available for those considering teaching.
